This class presents essential core readings in research data sharing, including articles, book chapters, videos, and reviews of concepts and tools. The sections of this class are: (1) What is sharing? (2) Data Sharing and Federal Access Mandates (3) Preparing Research Data for Sharing and Reuse (4) Sharing Data through Repositories. Learners can expect to complete knowledge check quizzes for each section.

Audience
This class is designed for newcomers to data services. A basic familiarity with data services terms and concepts is helpful, but not required, for these classes. Learners are not expected to have any prior experience working in data services.
This is a core/required course for the Level I Data Services Specialization.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
1. Describe researcher motivations for and barriers to data sharing.
2. Locate and understand data sharing requirements.
3. Define the FAIR data principles and apply them to an assessment of a dataset.
4. Describe elements of data curation that can be implemented as library data services.
5. Identify resources for navigating the data repository selection process.
